The Karp KATR-LL Lead Lined Access Door is a specialty recessed access door that serves a dual purpose. It is installed in a suspended drywall ceiling or wall with a fire rating, and the lead lining enables it to be used in an MRI room.
The combination of lead and steel and the double thickness of drywall maintains the fire-resistive qualities of the floor-ceiling assembly. The Karp KATR-LL lead-lined access door is perfect for medical facilities to help shield against radiation.

Lead Line Access Door Specifications:
- Frame: 16 gauge steel, and doors all be 18 gauge steel.
- Door: Recessed 1-1/2″ to accommodate double wall board thickness.
- Hinge: Exposed, continuous piano hinge.
- Locks: Flush and screwdriver operated with 1-1/2″ stainless steel cam and lock studs, or shall be key-operated cylinder lock with automatic dust shutter. It was furnished with plastic grommet studs only to protect holes made in the wallboard.
- Finish: Prime coat of rust-inhibitive electrostatic powder, baked grey enamel.
- Lead:Â Varying thicknesses of lead available.
- Sheet Metal meets National Council of Radiation Protection Report #49.
