You must rasp the entire expanded polystyrene (EPS) surface before applying the EIFS base coat. Rasping the existing surface completely removes any surface contaminants, and the newly opened surface improves overall adhesion. Once complete, remove any loose EPS material remaining on the wall and floor of the application area.
Rasping an EIFS EPS foam wall may be done with any of our DuraRasp™ Rasp hand-held rasping tools or by attaching self-adhering abrasive rasp paper to a standard rasp tool. Our 4-foot DuraRasp™ Rasp can be a more efficient option; it covers more surface area and helps with substrate flatness.
