The Karp Associates KATR Recessed Fire Resistant Ceiling Access Door provides access to a suspended drywall ceiling that is part of a fire-rated floor-ceiling assembly. Additionally, the steel and double-thickness drywall combination maintains the assembly’s fire-resistive qualities.

The KATR is also available with a lead lining option for use in areas where radiation protection is a concern.  KATR LL

KATR Access Door Specifications

• Door: Recessed 1-1/2″ to accommodate double thickness of wall board
• Door Frame: 16 gauge steel, and doors shall be 18 gauge steel.
• Hinge: Exposed, continuous piano hinge.
• Locks: Flush and screwdriver operated with 1 1/2″ stainless steel cam and lock studs, or shall be key operated cylinder locks. Furnished with plastic grommet studs only to protect the hole made in the wallboard.
• Finish: Prime coat of rust-inhibitive electrostatic powder, baked enamel.

KATR Access Door Options

• Type 304 stainless steel is well-suited for exterior weather locations or interior hygienic locations such as hospitals and health care, pharmaceutical plants, research laboratories, and food processing facilities.  Stainless steel is corrosion-resistant, durable, and requires very little maintenance.  Karp’s stainless steel access doors have a No. 4 satin finish, which is a general-purpose bright finish with a visible ‘grain” that prevents mirror reflection
• Removable doors allow for unobstructed access to wall or ceiling contents
• A 1/16″ x 3/8″ neoprene gasket can be added to the door, providing a tighter seal between the door and the door frame, adding protection from exposure to outside elements.

KATR Access Door Locking and Latching Options

• A cylinder locking device provides keyed access from the outside of the door.  The night latch also has a small thumb latch that keeps the spring latch retracted, allowing access at any time.
• The economical cylinder locking device provides keyed access from the outside of the door.
